Make a short link from a GET request
Create a small link you can share, manage, and expire.
How it works
Pass one public URL to create a short link, or repeat the URL parameter to build a collection of destinations. Optional aliases, expiry times, use limits, and QR codes are available.
A private management key is returned on creation. Store it securely; link analytics and edits require that key.
Creating a link changes state. Do not prefetch creation URLs, and use the documented idempotency control for retries.
Quick start
Public API calls use HTTPS GET. This example uses curl to encode query values. Run creation and relay requests deliberately; they can change state.
curl --get 'https://shortpathdesk.com/v1/shorten' \
--data-urlencode 'url=https://example.com' \
--header 'Idempotency-Key: example-link-creation-001'Request parameters
| Parameter | What it does |
|---|---|
url | Required destination; repeat this parameter for a link collection. |
ttl_seconds | Optional lifetime for the short link. |
alias | Optional custom short code, if available. |
Idempotency-Key | Optional request header for safe creation retries. |
Response
The creation response includes short_url and a one-time management_token. Keep that token in an Authorization header for private stats or edits.
Complete the flow
The response contains short_url and a management_token shown once. Follow short_url with GET. To read stats, edit, or expire the link, make a GET to /v1/links/{slug}/stats, /edit, or /expire with Authorization: Bearer <management_token>. Keep the token out of URLs.
